FIT is governed by a society of friends who form the General Assembly. Any interested person is able to join the society and attend an annual meeting.

Each year the General Assembly confers powers upon a Board of Directors (BoD) comprised of six members. The Board maintains an internal system of checks and balances and ensures that the public interest is served according to the terms of the German Civil Code (GBG). The BoD is responsible for:

Leadership and direction

Monitoring the implementation of agreed projects

Planning and activities

Ensuring compliance with the bylaws

Maintaining fiscal oversight of the organization

Evaluating the performance of the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Management Team
